It was those few words that hurt the most, especially from the mouth whose words meant the most. She had to resign up for more rations today, she just wasn't making enough for her and her grandmother to get enough to eat for even just a meal a day. Now her name was going to be in the reaping bowl even more times.. And that was when her grandmother snapped.
She had started crying and yelling, begging Rue to tell her that she hadn't done what she thought she had done.. But what was done was done. What really upset Rue was when her grandmother just stated offhandedly and clearly, "You won't survive the first hour.."
And with those words being said, Rue grabbed up her machete and ran into the woods, despite the fact it was starting to sprinkle tears of rain around her. There it was quiet and calm, and she ran, cutting at things as tears ran through her eyes. She was angry, not at her grandmother so much as the the laws that caused her to be in this mess in the first place.
Why was everything so unfair? Especially to her and her grandmother? They only had each other, couldn't they make an exception?
She started to slow down as she approached a stream close to the edge of her district's border, her eyes narrowing as she began to practice on a new tree. Things went quiet around her, and she paused, eyes widening as she tried to listen to sounds around her. She might be within the district, but that did not mean she was safe.
She heard rustling, and she immediately wrapped her hands around the hilt of her machete, eyes narrowed. "Come out coward and face me!" she shouted out, her voice loud in the quiet of the woods around her. Who was way out here? Could someone had followed her here? Was it a border patroller?
Either way, she was ready.

After his last trip well lets just say the boy stayed hidden in the shadows for a while. He didn’t almost get caught or anything but his parents were getting suspicious. His mother especially wanting to know why he was leaving the house all day. At first she accused him of being in love with a seam girl. He ended up with two smacks for that. Of course no matter how many times he said no it wouldn’t matter and earned an extra for arguing back. Peeta should have known better than to say anything but honestly he couldn’t help it. He was sick of being his mothers punching bag because she wanted him under her thumb at all times. But he was only sixteen and had two more years before he could even think of moving out on his own. That is if he didn’t get reaped first and hadn’t decided yet if it would be a miracle or just a bad run of luck. He had played “good boy” for the last month and a half but he was itching to continue his map. So far Katniss and him had discovered a couple districts but nothing that branched out past that. She had been extra busy trying to hunt as much as possible for her family.
Shaking his head he made his way across the meadow with a bag slung over his shoulder. A couple times Katniss and himself hadn’t got back to the rabbit holes in time getting stuck. It wasn’t fun and every time he brought enough food for the night and a small blanket just in case. Finding his way to the whole in the fence he listened if it was on before burrowing underneath and escaping. Looking back at district twelve he wished he could just make himself a new home elsewhere. A small chuckle came out of his lips knowing the idea was absurd the capitol would eventually catch him. Taking out the map from his pocket a couple of the holes labeled as different districts. Today he just wanted to wander around seeing any of the other ones he could stumble upon. He didn’t expect to be so lucky when he rested his head on a tree and he slipped right on through. Falling down on his back he cursed a bit too loud and rubbed his head.
Standing up he saw something entirely different the place was beautiful. It was filled with orchards even on the outskirts. Random berries and apples were scattered everywhere it seemed and his eyes lit up. Jostling about he moved past a couple of bushes and their branches snapped back in to place as he walked. Stopping he made sure to leave a big pile of berries where he came through and marked it on his map. He heard something like a bird hitting a tree and thought nothing of it till the noise stopped. He was a second to late and rustled a branch with his left arm. Trying to make it stop he clamped his hands down on it but it seemed to only make matters worse. Then he heard a voice of a young girl saying to come out and that he was a coward. Peeta’s face scrunched up but figured she was trying to play up on her words.
Peaking out from behind a tree he noticed a dark skinned girl. He had never seen anyone like her in real life only in the games. Noting her body looked warn like Damien’s but in a different way. Hitching his bag up over his shoulder a bit more before making himself known. Holding his hands up as he did this sliding out behind the tree. “Don’t kill me now I’m not a peacekeeper. I come from-“ But he stopped himself he had no idea who this girl was or if she’d run off telling people. So he bit his tongue always being too nice for his own good. He stared at her and his blue eyes met her dark ones for a moment then wandered off to look at her weapon a moment. [/blockquote]
