Did you read the rules? -Admin Edit-
Character name: Damien Louis Valderiez
Age: fifteen
District: Ten
Occupation: Farmer
Height & Weight: 5 foot 10 inches; 140 pounds
Play by: Brennan Mejia
Physical Description: Tall and scrawny. Damien isn't the most intimidating figure on the block by far. His frame is skinny due to not getting enough to eat, but he works past it. He has a semi-decent muscle frame due to his district's work and farming for a good while. His hair is a dark brown coloring that he keeps as short as he can though the bangs have a tendency to fall into his face. his eyes are he same shade of brown as his hair and they keep a blank look to them a lot. He doesn't want to let his emotions show. He doesn't want to let anyone know anything about him unless he wants them to.
Personality: Damien isn't the easiest person to get the know. He has walls up a mile high and he isn't looking to bring them down any time soon. He can be quite the secretive young man and finds it hard to tell people…well much of anything about himself really. He doesn't want people to judge him, be cruel to him, or turn him in due to his past mistakes and choices. And so he keeps all of his own emotional turmoil to himself. That and well he hates feeling like a burden to others physically, emotionally or otherwise. He’s figured that if he can make it this far by himself, then he can trudge on and keep on making it by himself.
On the outside, he has all of the tough guy bravado that some might come to expect from a boy in their mid teens. He acts like he’s all brave and that nothing can hurt him. Damien can be rather brash at times with his planning. He doesn't often think things through as well as he probably should and he is known for always going into things headfirst and with reckless abandon (much to other peoples' chagrin). He's always been the kind to act first and think later. He'll hatch up a plan and then he'll jump right in headfirst usually without thinking of the possibly consequences for him or any others around him.
And stubborn? Well its tough to find many people who are more stubborn then Damien is. He believes in what he believes in and there is absolutely nothing or no one on this planet who can change that. He fiercely fights for what he thinks is right...though not always in the best ways. He has no qualms about killing anyone if they threaten him, his family or any of his friends. You hurt them--your on his list. And its hard to get off of that list too. He isn't one for giving second chances--not after being betrayed and burned as many times as he had been.
He may seem very confident, self assured and cocky on the outside, but really he isn't as much as of those things as he might like you to think he is. He often times goes into these self loathing spirals where he blames himself for every little thing that happens to him or anyone else (even if it makes no sense whatsoever). He deals with a lot of inner guilt and pain over his past mistakes while he tries to forget them...it’s not a very easy thing to do. He is very hard on himself and its only worse due to his lack of talking about it.
Maybe one day he'll get that its okay to let it out sometimes and its okay to break down occasionally...but for now...well that just ain't happening.
Internal Conflicts: Damien worries about himself some days. About how easy he could kill someone who threatens his friends or his family. He worries about that. How easily could that transfer to other people--other times--and other places. This is the main reason he is scared to death of getting reaped. He doesn't want to be known as a killer.
Strengths: Knows his ways around animals; Strong willed; Loyal; Determined
Weaknesses: Brash; Stubborn; Not open to others; Sarcastic
Fears: Being reaped of course; Causing another death unintentionally; his past mistakes blowing up in his face; Being alone
Anything Else: Damien may keep others at arm's length and such, but he actually wants friends. He doesn't want to be alone for the rest of his life. He just isn't sure how to go about it...that's all.
History: Damien is the middle of three children born to a couple in district ten. Its not the fanciest district by far and they have tough times a plenty, but they always made it work. As farmers, they were always out and about, tending to their cattle and horses and other livestock. The days were long and the work is always hard--but they did what they had to--to keep the Capital happy. Not that they were happy with the Capital...but they always kept their mouths shut.
Things changed when a couple of years ago. Damien was out tending to the horses when some peacekeepers had spooked them (whether accidental or not--he would never figure it out though he has his speculations). The horses however were freaked. And Damien was thrown into the fence with enough power to knock him out. That wasn't the worst part though. when he had awoken--he was then told of his little sister's death. She had tried to drag him out of the fray and was kicked in the head by one of the largest horses they had. The young 12 yr old stood little chance of surviving such an injury.
Damien withdrew a little. Okay so he withdrew a lot. He totally blamed himself for what had happened. Even though he had just been doing what he had told...and if it was anyone's fault it was the peacekeepers who had spooked the horses. But of course there was no way to prove that. The Capital gave their cause of death as accidental. And that was the end of that. But Damien always blamed himself and always would blame himself.
And so now the family continues on. They have to. And both Damien and his older brother dread reaping day and the fear that they might get chosen...

Denton hadn't been able to leave since the hurricane came. It had been a few weeks now. And he had spent most of the time to himself--even Christmas and New Years--he had simply stayed away from others. It was nothing personal against anyone of course. He just had a lot on his mind and he wasn't keen on talking to anyone. Course what was new with that piece of information? Eh not much he supposed. He hadn't expected to be back here again. Really he hadn't. Not after what had happened between him and that...cat...thing. He had told himself that he wouldn't go back there. That he couldn't trust his safety to a place where he gets attacked and almost killed. But deep down--he knew it was a good thing he was here and he was thankful.
The hurricane had been awful. The subways were flooded. Power had been out for a while. The weather had been hellacious. The streets had been a mess. And god only knows what would have happened to him had he stayed in the city. He always had her number--since their meeting in the park anyways. He had been tempted to toss it after he had left...but he hadn't. He had kept it. Why? He couldn't say. But he had been too stubborn to admit that he needed help at that moment. He had been angry...maybe unjustifiably so and he had let that screw with his judgment and crap like that.
But even he knew that messing with Mother Nature was only going to end badly. And that even trying to was seriously stupid and that he wasn't even going to try to ride it out...
Thus the call to Storm. She and someone else--who he couldn't even begin to say---had picked him up and he had been here ever since. He supposed he could have left now, but--something was telling him that it wasn't a good idea. That maybe he should stay here. He wasn't sure why he was feeling like this but he was. And well--he had always told himself that listening to his gut instinct was never a bad thing....thus why he was still here.
And why he had found himself in the dojo. He remembered the place vaguely from the last time he was here. It was where he had come to meditate off in the corner when there was no one around. Just to think about things and have some quiet. And well--there was no one around and he could certainly use a moment or four of quietness to himself.
And so he flopped down in the corner--sitting Indian style and he just simply sat there, eyes closed, breathing in and out and thinking....
