Character name: Katniss Everdeen
Age: Sixteen
District: Twelve
Occupation: Hunter
Height & Weight: 5'7", 120
Play by: Jennifer Lawrence
Physical Description: Katniss has straight long black hair, which she normally pulls back into a long braid (trademarked as the Katniss 'swooping braid'). She has olive skin, and gray eyes. She is small in stature and very thin for her age due to malnutrition and poverty she suffered from living in her District. Due to her outdoor life and illegal occupation as a hunter however, she is strong for her size, quiet and agile. Katniss is not very image-conscious and settles for messy hair and dirt on her while she hunts. Because she needs to move quickly through the forest and through the barbed wire boundaries of Twelve, she has minor scrapes and cuts throughout her body. Her outward appearance is very much imperfect, but nothing out of the ordinary for any other girl from District Twelve. Katniss is usually found in a plain t-shirt and jeans that she pairs with comfortable hiking boots and her fathers leather jacket that hangs quite loosely on her.
Personality: Katniss is a very headstrong and stubborn girl. She is fiercely independent and has survivalist instincts that stem from her difficult past and upbringing. Because of this, she is not as socially adept as most young girls in her district and has an extremely difficult time trusting people. Her hard and cold demeanor makes it difficult for her to make friends and it makes her awkward around others. Her sole concern is feeding Prim and her mother - not socializing when she could be out hunting or trading. From years of experience outside the District boundaries and the skills she learned from her father, Katniss is very logical until emotions get in her way. Her lack of social skills leaves her very blunt and honest; a trait that is usually not taken so kindly by those who don't know her well. Katniss is very strong, stubborn and determined. Often, she will react first and ask questions later. Though Katniss can be self-centered and self reliant, she has a natural maternal instinct that is very clear to those who are close to her; Prim, her mother, and the people of The Seam. She can be very comforting and was known at one point to sing all the time before the death of her father. She acts to protect those she loves at any cost.
Katniss has a habit of biting her nails when she is nervous or anxious and must consciously stop herself from doing so when around others. In times of needing comfort, she rocks back and forth from her toes to her heels while she plays with the zipper and/or sleeves of her fathers leather jacket.
Internal Conflicts: Katniss isn't naturally a people person, but that doesn't mean that she isn't thinking about love in the long term. She would love to get married and have a life with someone, but she would never want to fall in love so deeply to the point that if the person left her she would tune out like her mother did when her father died. One of the main reasons she doesn't seek or work for relationships is because she is afraid of codependency.
Katniss is torn with letting her family starve or signing up for more tesserae. On one hand, she has enough grain and oil to feed her family for the year. Though on the other hand, her name is put into the Reaping Bowl more times. She knows that if she ever had to enter the Arena she wouldn't come out a Victor - a fate which she struggles to compare to Prim's empty stomach.
Katniss has a love/hate relationship with merchants. She delivers them game in exchange for much needed supplies, but she is bitter in knowing that they are much better off than her people of The Seam and many of the merchants don't seem interested in helping or spreading what little wealth they have around. While she knows that she needs a lot she doesn't have to support her mother and Prim, Katniss refuses to be a charity case and holds a grudge against Peeta Mellark for trying to give her bread.
Strengths: mastery with a bow and arrow, agility, quiet, cunning
Weaknesses: cold weather, stubborn personality, inability to trust strangers, Prim
Fears: the dark, being reaped, Prim dying, drowning
Anything Else: None
History: Katniss Everdeen was born to one of the poorest families in District 12. Her childhood was happy but laden with poverty that both her mother and father tried to work their way out of. They lived somewhat comfortably; her father was a miner hunter and her mother a healer, and they were a well respected family in their little community called The Seam. Some years later, another daughter was born; Primrose Everdeen. The family was finally complete, and for some time they lived happily together despite their lack of material possessions.
The fondest memories of Katniss' childhood were of exploring the boundaries outside of District 12 with her father. It was out in the wilderness, as free as they could get, that he taught her many songs and eventually, how to hunt. With her miniature bow and set of arrows, Katniss spent many evenings after school out in the woods hunting rabbits and pigeons with her father.
It was one fateful day when Katniss' life was turned upside down. When her father and the rest of the miners were killed in a mining explosion, the entire District suffered. With a heavy heart, Katniss a well as other daughters, sons and wives took the place of the lost miners to fill their quota for The Capitol. She was scared, claustrophobic and useless in the mines. As soon as the miners were replaced, Katniss was able to venture back into the open and stay there for good. Each day she found herself drawn closer and closer to the District boundaries, eying the rock where she knew her fathers bow and arrows were still hidden. After risking her life in the mines, digging through the District garbage cans for food and eventually signing up for tesserae to feed what remained of her family, Katniss finally had the courage to sneak through the fence and start hunting on her own.
The first couple of months proved fruitless, other than a small rodent here and there. Katniss relied heavily on the tesserae to feed her mother and Prim. But as time went on, Katniss became more proficient with her bow and arrows and her kills became larger and more frequent to the point where she had more than enough game to support her family. Living in The Seam in such poverty led her to return to The Hob, a trading post where her father often frequented, and to begin forming business relationships with people from all over District 12. She exchanged her game for supplies and money and at the tender age of sixteen became one of the most important people of The Seam.

Sample Post:
Katniss carried a smug face as she walked through the merchant streets of District 12. She carried her hunting bag with her; a simple leather version of her school bag that her father once carried his own game in. It was full of her usual catch; a few pigeons and a couple squirrels, even a rabbit for the Mayor. It swung rhythmically as she walked, bouncing against her thigh with each long stride she took. She took in a deep breath and clutched the strap of her bag with her right hand, eager to be on her way. It wasn't often that she felt comfortable in this part of town. In fact, she despised going into the merchant area. The clothing shops, the sweet scent of the bakery, every tiny detail of the so-called "rich" part of town made her blood boil. It wasn't because she came from The Seam and couldn't afford such luxuries - oh no. It was because of the people. She saw how the other girls her age looked at her. While they dressed in their hand me down frocks, Kaniss preferred instead to wear her hunting attire. Hiking boots, a simple t-shirt and most importantly, her fathers leather jacket. Sure, it was a little big on her and probably didn't flatter her body very well. But it belonged to her father, and she would never let it go.
Her eyes narrowed as she looked to her side, meeting the gaze of a young girl she went to school with but hardly knew. Katniss eyed the faded sandals she wore. Probably suede and valuable - at some point in time but not now. Nothing was valuable here. Not even the coal, and especially not a pair of stupid, strappy sandals.
With a snort, Katniss marched on quickly, almost breaking into a jog just so she could get as far away from the girl as possible. She looked back over her shoulder and glared once more. Damn merchants. Always thinking they're better than everyone else. She let her gaze drift over to the Mellark bakery that she could smell the moment she stepped into the square. Closing her eyes for a moment, Katniss turned back around and broke into a run, eager as hell to get her trading done for the day. It was only a few seconds later that she hit something - or someone. And hard. With a hard thud onto the concrete below her, Katniss fell to the ground. She didn't waste time in glaring at whoever she made contact with.
